Their yip yip howl piercing the moonless night
As I toss sleepless; my thoughts a brick wall.
I have trudged through fog -- grey, damp, thick and deep;
Obscuring the sun and hiding my path,
Drowning defiance and welcoming sleep.
I have seen branches turn black with frostbite --
Shrivel, wither and die; misshapen stumps
Where happy growth sighed and gave up the fight.
And, still, each year daffodil leaves appear,
Green spears pushing through the icy cold frost.
Daring me to bloom, to live, without fear.

I like the way you used the rhythm - the natural images are very soothing.
This is a beautiful poem, really expressing the joy of new daffodils.
Annette -- I like the subject matter. Do you want to know that you still need a couplet? Ignore this, if not. You have a poem that works and has strong images.
margo
yes, you may fix me with a glare :-) but I couldn't not point it out although I dithered.
I really like your rhyme scheme... and your last line really moved me. To bloom, to live, without fear... nice!
deep and delightful writing.
//I have lain and listened to coyotes call;
Their yip yip howl piercing the moonless night
As I toss sleepless; my thoughts a brick wall./
I loved the imagery here ... a beautiful use of onomatopoeia ...
well written poem
perfect and beautiful.
I don't have winter where I live, but I totally get the tenacity of those daffodils to keep appearing after the worst of the winter has come and gone - a great inspirational piece!
Great flow!
" Shrivel, wither and die; misshapen stumps" and "Green spears pushing through the icy cold frost" - strong imagery!
Soothing flow ... I love the surprise I receive - when all of the sudden those bright yellow bonnets adorn my stark daylily bed ... for some reason they always catch me off guard!! :-)
smart writing.
This appeals to me greatly. I like the way the triumphant tone matches the subject matter.
Thank you for the reminder that daffodil time is right around the corner! Lovely words.
Very nice work! Dare to bloom! How many of really do dare to bloom?
What a joyful poem...in spite of winter's freezing damage. I'm a gardener too. Spring is my favorite time of year when new growth starts sprouting. I have to force daffodil bulbs to see them grow..not cold enough here.
